Located in a former Finnish Border Guard barracks, our hostel offers practical facilities, sufficient capacity and a peaceful nature setting for school camps, educational travel groups, association trips, retreats and other group activities.

Facilities designed for groups
Hostel Aurora has 75 beds in 30 rooms. Six rooms have private bathrooms, while the others have shared bathrooms located in the corridor. This layout works well for educational travel groups, school camps and youth groups, where shared spaces are often part of the experience.
Groups also have access to a classroom for up to 40 people, suitable for teaching, meetings or workshops. The hostel also offers larger indoor areas for group activities, gatherings or quiet moments.
A drying and maintenance room is available for outdoor equipment, and a self-service kitchen makes everyday life easier for groups. Evening sauna sessions are included in the accommodation.
If needed, the entire hostel can also be rented for private group use.
Nature travel and activities in the Ruka–Kuusamo area
Hostel Aurora is located by Lake Nilojärvi in Kuusamo, surrounded by peaceful nature. The large yard area allows space for group activities and outdoor programs, and the 70-metre shoreline offers a beautiful place to gather and enjoy the northern sunsets.
Kuusamo and Ruka offer exceptional opportunities for nature travel in Finland. Nearby destinations include Oulanka National Park, the famous Karhunkierros hiking trail, Riisitunturi, Hossa, Syöte and Salla, all easily reachable for day trips.
During winter, Ruka Ski Resort offers skiing, cross-country skiing and winter activities. In summer the area is known for hiking, canoeing, cycling and exploring the pristine nature of northern Finland.
